Play Any Movie On Netflix With Tasker

7

This exercise is already a little bit more difficult but really rewarding. With this Tasker profile, you’re able to play any movie on Netflix just by voice.

For this tutorial, we will be using Tasker and Autoinput. You can also just skip the tutorial and download the profile at the end of the post. But we would strongly advise to read through the tutorial anyway.

Event => Plugin => Autovoice => Recognized

The Hard Way => Command Filter =>Netflix (?<movie>.+) => tick box: Use Regex

Now just say the command: Netflix The Walking Dead, Netflix Finding Dory,… But it always has to start with Netflix. You can easily adapt this if you want.

Now for the Task:

Play Movie (9)
A1: Variable Set [ Name:%movie To:friends Recurse Variables:Off Do Maths:Off Append:Off ] If [ %movie !Set ]
A2: Say [ Text:Playing %movie Engine:Voice:com.cereproc.William:eng-GBR Stream:3 Pitch:5 Speed:5 Respect Audio Focus:On Network:Off Continue Task Immediately:Off ]
A3: Launch App [ App:Netflix Data: Exclude From Recent Apps:Off Always Start New Copy:Off ]
A4: AutoInput Action [ Configuration:Type: Text
Value: search
Action : Click Timeout (Seconds):20 ]
A5: AutoInput Action [ Configuration:Type: Focus
Text to Write : %movie
Action : Replace Timeout (Seconds):20 ]
A6: AutoInput Action [ Configuration:Type: List
Value: 1
Action : Click Timeout (Seconds):20 ]
A7: AutoInput Action [ Configuration:Type: Text
Value: Play Video
Action : Click Timeout (Seconds):20 ]

    • Thanks for flagging this. Indeed Netflix change the text variable.
You can solve this by adapting the last task in this profile:
      Autoinput Action:
      Action: Click
      Field Type: Text
Field Text: Play %movie (instead of Play Movie)
      Does it work now?

      • Thanks for the reply. It now works when I run the task from inside Tasker, but the voice command part still won’t work. It gets as far as opening the correct page in Netflix but doesn’t play it.

          • I have the Google Now integration enabled, yes. I’ve tried disabling Tasker and giving the command, and it still opened Netflix and found the correct show, but doesn’t start playing. So I’m wondering if this inbuilt functionality is somehow overriding my Tasker task?
